Splitting the check

Why the heck do restaurants have such a big deal about splitting a large parties check?
Consider this…
What is the goal of a good restaurant? To provide great food and a great atmosphere, right? So you go out with to dinner with your friends to, not to name any names… lets say… umm Mimi’s. You sit out on the deck, great view, good food and service. A good time is had by all.
Then the bill comes! 12 people on one check.
Chaos ensues . Dinning experience is ruined.

I completely agree. In fact, when you split checks you are more likely to get a good tip than if you combine everything onto one check. And it’s not like it’s terribly difficult to do it!

true, but I wonder if it has something to do with records. Like how many partys of 6 or more did we have last month. I have never worked in the F&B biz so I have no clue. I just wish they split the check too. :)
And some ask and do it, so it is not always that big of a deal.
